Osheaga 2019: What to Wear to See Your Favorite Artists?

19 Jul 2019

We’re well into summer, vacation has officially started, and festival season is in full swing! Soon, it will be time for Osheaga! The Osheaga 2019 lineup has been released and will definitely get you moving and grooving to the beats of some of music’s most popular artists.

On our radar for the 14th edition of this major Montreal festival are: The Lumineers, City and Colour, The Chemical Brothers, Flume, Gucci Mane, and Childish Gambino. We can’t wait to see their spectacular shows at Parc Jean-Drapeau.

But careful, music fans and fashionistas! The time is flying by! This festival runs from Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 4, which means it’s already time to start thinking about your festival looks for every Osheaga date. Create outfits that are as practical as they are unique and then take them to the next level with on-point fashion accessories.
Whether you are a fan of hip-hop, rock, pop, indie, folk, or EDM, here are some of our stylists’ suggestions for spot-on Osheaga street style and VIP access to all the top trends.

The Lumineers and City and Colour: Folk Feel

The Lumineers’ performance at Osheaga promises to be a magical evening that brings everyone together! This Denver-based band released their first album in 2012, which included huge hits like “Ho Hey” and “Stubborn Love.” Since then, they’ve been touring, winning awards, and attending major festivals. We hope we’ll have the chance to hear their latest single, “Gloria,” from their upcoming album that’s scheduled to be released in the fall.
Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green, aka City and Colour, is another artist who will be bringing an authentic folk feel to the Montreal festival. Green, who is also a member of the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire, did an acoustic solo project and his songs have made an impression on millions of music fans all over the world.

For these shows, we suggest combining key summer pieces together into natural and effortless looks. Jean shorts, tie-dye T-shirts (the season’s most popular pattern for women and men!), printed shirts, fluid dresses, and jumpsuits are as comfortable as they are stylish for celebrating this sensational music.

The Chemical Brothers and Flume: Electronic Energy

With their powerful and danceable big beat sounds, The Chemical Brothers were a leading band on the ’90s electronic scene. Judging from their latest album, No Geography, which was released earlier this year, we can look forward to a high-octane performance from this British duo. From the younger generation of DJs and producers that are currently at the top of the charts, the Australian artist, Flume, will also be transforming Parc Jean-Drapeau into an open-air dance floor.

When it comes to clothing, neons and bright colours will be what you'll want to wear to see these artists. A good way to style them? Slip on festival fashion's go-to garment: The T-shirt. In bubble gum pink, electric blue, or lime green, it will make sure you stand out from the crowd. Patterns will also be joining the dance party. Checkerboard checks, stripes, and geometric shapes will be stealing the show on this season's shorts and accessories.

Gucci Mane and Childish Gambino: Hip-Hop Beats

Two of rap's heavy-hitters will be headlining the Montreal music festival this year. First, Gucci Mane is a name that will definitely be drawing a huge crowd on Friday night. The prolific American rapper recently released his 14th studio album, Delusions of Grandeur, which includes a collaboration with Justin Bieber.
Then, Childish Gambino will take the stage, a rapper who's also a filmmaker, comedian, and actor. You'll hear him play the voice of Simba in the upcoming live-action version of the popular Disney movie, The Lion King. We can't wait to see what this artist, whose music video for “This is America” was one of the most viewed on YouTube, has in store for us during his performance at Osheaga.

The in-demand details you’ll see at these concerts are animal prints and athletic clothes. Leopard is ruling right now as the season’s on-point pattern. Black spots inspired by this cat’s coat are absolutely everywhere on clothing and accessories. Snake, zebra, and giraffe prints are also go-tos in the game.

Clothing coming from major sportswear and streetwear brands like Vans, adidas, Kappa, Champion, and Obey are also sought-after, with styles that feature their signature logos in prominent places. These pieces have been popular with stars from the hip-hop scene for years.

Reminder: Accessories!

Don’t forget the finishing touches. One of our favorites for festivals is a practical belt bag that lets you carry your essentials while keeping your hands free. Also, you’ll be needing two major musts, a cap and sunglasses, since this weekend is definitely shaping up to be spectacular!
And voilà! You’re ready to go! Osheaga 2019 can now begin!
