The Orchestre symphonique de Québec (OSQ), a symbol of creativity and artistic excellence since 1902, is performing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony: a seminal work in the history of music! You will have the opportunity to attend this special performance on May 25 at 8:00 p.m. and May 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Grand Théâtre de Québec. Culture and art have always held a place of prominence at La Maison Simons. The fashion retailer is therefore proud to be supporting this renowned Quebec City institution.

The concert will be led by Fabien Gabel, conductor and music director of the OSQ since 2012. Born in Paris to a family of musicians, the maestro has already enjoyed an impressive international career for his young age. His accomplishments include conducting the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris and the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. Certainly nothing to sneeze at! He is particularly admired for the theatrical force in his movements and the precision with which he conducts his musicians.

Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is considered one of the greatest symphonies of all time. Its innovation lies in the addition of a choir to the orchestra—a first in music history.
“Ode to Joy,” written by Friedrich von Schiller, is the famous poem sung in the final movement of the Ninth Symphony. It speaks of unity as an ideal and of brotherhood between people, and it became the European Union's official anthem in 1986.

Fabien also had an anecdote to share about the origins of the Symphony.
