Samantha Pynn x Simons Maison
It’s with great pleasure that the designer Samantha Pynn presents this article in which she discusses fall (her favourite season) and the new designs she’s added to her second decor collection for Simons.
When I look at my fall collection at Simons, I have to confess I get that same excited feeling that I used to get on my first day of school.
Fall is my favourite season. I always loved going back to school because it was a time of new beginnings—new grade, new clothes, new schools supplies; and, my mom would always treat me to something new for my room.
One of my favourite memories is of the new comforter that my mom surprised me with on the first day of school. (We used comforters in those days instead of duvets and duvet covers). I had showed her one that I liked on a back-to-school shopping trip at our local department store. When I walked into my room a couple weeks later, there it was already on my bed! It was a little thing, but it made me so happy.
This season, as with the first collection, I designed it with something for everyone—whether you’re looking for playful, flirty, nature-inspired, or sophisticated.
Plus, these patterns have “legs”. For me, good design will last you for many years. With my first collection for Simons, the designs were on-trend, updated classics that were easy to mix-and-match with other pieces within the collection, as well as with items you already have at home.
The fall collection is similar in that it includes everything that I love as a designer: quality fabrics and finishing details, touches of gold, classic geometrics, and easy to work with colours. The season, however, is a little more playful drawing inspiration from my trip to Portugal.
In addition to new patterns, there are plenty of solids that build on the initial collection such as Euro shams in turquoise and jet black. Turquoise is a big colour this season as is black in the bedroom. The solid linen and velvet 35 cm x 50 cm accent pillows were a big success when we launched, so we added orange, navy and turquoise. The striped shower curtain is available in 2 more colour ways.
And, the addition that I’m most excited about is the tri-coloured linen drapery panels. I’ve always loved drapery panels that have a strong grounding colour on the bottom, a lighter mid-stripe, and a white top and header. I use this style of drapery panel in so many of the homes I design because they finish a room and dress a window in a super-sophisticated way. Having drapery panels like these custom made would cost a bundle, but they’re available at Simons for $85.00 - this makes me very happy! I hope the collection makes you happy too!
