An heirloom is not only a hat, but a treasure to cherish.

Founded by Montreal-based designer Samantha-Tara Mainville, Heirloom was created to persue her love of sewing and hat making. Using transformative, high-quality materials and creative design methods, Samantha handcrafts each hat and accessory with a unique approach.

From the age of 8, Samantha was constantly fiddling with a needle and thread. This inevitably lead her to study fashion design in college. Later on in school, she discovered that she had an interest in millinery as well. Pursuing that passion, she took a course in pattern making to help her grow as a designer, focusing on hat making. As she learned about design and materials, she researched what she wanted to use when creating the hats. Using eco-sourced and accessible materials, Samantha prides herself on making quality and comfortable products, all handcrafted in her Montreal-based studio.

Created with meticulous attention to detail, a basic hat can take 6 to 8 hours to produce, while a custom one can take up to 20 hours.

Samantha brings an undeniably vintage and traditional energy to her designs and is greatly inspired by Italian designer, Elsa Schiaparelli. Samantha paid special tribute to her muse by naming one of her pieces, the Elsa turban headband, after her. Heirloom takes its name and vision from the very special circumstance of inheriting a treasure from someone which we will cherish for years to come. Samantha's goal is to create hats and accessories that can be worn by everyone.

Her mission is to stay accessible using high-quality materials that's sourced responsibly. This has allowed her success to flourish and enabled her to stand out in the hat making industry.
