As a child, illustrator Marie-Michèle Desmarais drove by the Granby Zoo every day and observed the animals. Through her drawings, she showcases their fascinating ability to communicate, socialize, and connect as humans do. This young girl from her Animal Social collection is affectionately hugging her reindeer, which highlights the depth and authenticity of relationships between humans and animals. Her people, the Tsaatan, are a small community of nomadic reindeer ranchers in northern Mongolia, who treat these cervids as equals.
